How to Submit a Fly Pattern To Umpqua Feather Merchants

Umpqua Feather Merchants has roots in fly tying and has the largest community of Signature Royalty Tyers today. Over 200 men and women are Umpqua Signature Tyers!

To be an Umpqua Signature Tyer you need to design a pattern or patterns that are unique, innovative and commercially viable. They are looking for the best of the best! Below are the steps to submit a pattern to Umpqua.

1) Package up 6-10 samples of the fly pattern.
2) Include a written description of what it is, how you created it, why you did so and your contact information.
3) Make sure the package is properly protected—gotta keep those bugs safe in transit!
4) Address and send the package to:

Umpqua Feather Merchants
Attn: Dave Student, Fly Guy
594 S Arthur Ave
Louisville, CO 80027

Once Umpqua has received the package, the flies will be rigorously reviewed by their in-house Fly Committee. The flies will be handled, field tested and really put through their paces. Read more about that here! If the fly passes all of the tests and is selected, Umpqua will reach out to you to discuss your Royalty contract.

From there you will be involved in the production process and they will work with you to make sure your fly is being tied to your exact specs. The fly will then be put into production, sold to customers and put into stores!

If selected, your name and fly will appear next to many of the greats in the sport—a real accomplishment!

So, what are you waiting for? Give it a shot and see it your fly will be next!
