Learn how to tie the LED Midge
The LED Midge in a fantastic pattern created by Kevan Davidson here in Colorado. This pattern Originated on the Big T near Estes Park, but the pattern has proven great success in any tailwater. We recommend tying this fly up in a variety of colors to help match the water near you. This pattern utilizes the craft material Bonnie Braid, but you can substitute for Hareline Life Flex for the body and Minnow Body for the eyes. Tie up some of these killer midge pattern and try them on your local tailwater!
Ingredients & Recipe
- Hook: Use your preferred size 18 hook
- Thread: UNI 8/0 Black
- Eyes: Body Craft Cord White 6 MM . The recipe calls for Bonnie Braid but you can substitute for Minnow Body
- Marker: Use any UV marker with invisible ink
- Body: Royal Blue Bonnie Braid Or Hareline Life Flex
- Body Segment: Hareline Krystal Flash Or UTC Wire XS
- Blood Red LED Midge ONLY- Wingcase: Veevus Holographic Tinsel – Small
- Finish: Use any finish, Zap-a-gap
- Vise – Mongoose Vice
- Scissors – Dr. Slick Arrow Point
- Bodkin – Rising Stout Bodkin
- Whip Finish – Tiemco Midge Whip Finish
