In this week’s episode of Tying Tuesdays, watch as Brady ties the Bareback Stonefly!
We all know and love the Rubber Leg Stonefly. It is quick, dirty, and effective. Sometimes there is a need for a slightly elevated version whether it be for the fisher or the fish. The Bareback created by Bob Streb of Umpqua Feather Merchants is just that. Adding a simple latex backing material and tying it on a curved hook is simple but makes a big difference. The fishability of this fly is not hindered by these additions and in some situations improves. The wide hook gape of the scud style hook brings me confidence. With an array of variegated chenille offered today it is a fly that can be tied in various sizes and color combinations. If you need this as a lead fly add some weight as it is a great attractor bug. It is best fished in a multi nymph right either under an indicator or tightline nymphing.

Excellent presentation. I like how the materials are identified in the video. Great job. I have been tying flies for many years and have been learning more techniques from the AVIDMAX videos. Never to old to learn new tricks.
