THE OG carp fly. This fly is intended to be a heavy fly that will get down quick to the feeding zone of any carp. It will have a heavier presentation when it hits the water but don’t let it scare you from using it. This fly is extremely effective in moving water and gets the job done in still water situations. Make SURE you have at least one in your box when you go out.
The Para Midge dry fly is a go to Midge adult in my box. It works great all year round and on a variety of waters. This fly is simple to tie but deadly when fished. The Para Midge is one of my favorites due to its fish ability. With the Klinkhammer style post it allows this fly to be fished high and dry or just under the water surface film where a lot of emerging insects fail to break free and are swallowed up.
This fly is sure to make some fish angry. Designed for Salmon and Steelhead the pink and purple is a sure win. Swing this fly over some Coho and hold on. Easy fly tie a bunch of and a go to grab from the box. Switch your colors to entice other species.
Barry’s Carp Bitter is a tried and tested carp fly. This fly is designed to be a medium weight swimming fly that replicates anything from floating moss to a swimming leech and anything in between. Throw it at feeding fish, sunning fish or movers and there is a good chance the fish will take a look at it.
The fly to bust you out of your slump, ya I said it but it’s true! Created by the great John Barr this is one of my favorite flies to fish. When big fish are feeding you can bet they are looking for a meal that is worth their time. The Slump Buster is just what you need to imitate the larger aquatic snacks they are after. This is a great fly whether you are fishing still water, tail waters or freestones.
A favorite tarpon fly. Red, purple, and black seem to be the best colors. Make sure you use a strong hook just like this Gamakatsu. Traditionally tied with rabbit for the tail, adding the dragon tail makes it even fishier. Try fishing it in freshwater with some dumbbell eyes for pike or bass. This fly has movement!

The Humpy, most commonly tied in the Yellow Humpy variation is seemingly a less popular fly in modern days. For me, this is a pattern that should be in every angler’s summer dry box. Not only does it float high, even in the most turbulent water but it keeps its buoyancy fish after fish! Tying these bad boys does take some practice. Watching the elegant dry fly slurps from hungry trout makes it all worth it.
Great fly to fish in high or murky water. I like this worm because it is a little more of an attractor than an accurate representation of the analids in the river. This fly is for sure to save the day on a guide trip. Tough meal for a fish to pass up on the dead drift!

The Hybrid is one of those carp flies you look at and you just know it will get the job done. It’s intended to replicate a worm or leech but carp don’t really seem to care because they just love it. it is simple and elegant without trying to be something it is not. the Hybrid is a basic carp fly that just plain works.
