Welcome back to Fly Tying Tuesday! This week join Kyle as he ties the Titan Tube Midge — a sleek, realistic midge pattern that’s deadly in clear water and cold conditions.

Let’s Tie, see Kyle in action in the video!

Materials Used: (all available at AvidMax)

Step-by-Step Tying Instructions:

Start the Hook & Bead: Slide the black brass bead onto the TMC 2302 hook and secure it in the vise.

Lay the Thread Base: Start the white UTC thread behind the bead and wrap a smooth thread base to the bend.

Tie in the Wire: Secure both red and black Ultra Wire along the side of the shank for ribbing.

Add the Tubing: Tie in a short section of clear hollow tubing at the bend.

Form the Body: Wrap the tubing forward in smooth overlapping turns and secure it behind the bead.

Add the Ribbing: Counter-wrap the wires evenly to create segmentation and durability.

Add the Flash: Tie in a short piece of pearlescent tinsel along the top for a subtle glow.

Create the Collar: Use 2–3 strands of white ostrich herl for a soft thorax area behind the bead.

Finish: Whip finish, trim, and seal with a small drop of head cement.

How to Fish It

  • Use fine wire for a smaller profile on size 16–18 hooks.
  • For added flash, substitute silver wire instead of black.
  • Fish this pattern deep under an indicator or as a dropper on a two-fly rig.
