How to tie a simple Jujubee Midge
Charlie Craven’s Jujubee Midge is a fantastic pattern that fish can’t resist. However, tying it with super hair can be a bit challenging. Many anglers I’ve spoken with have found that XS/Fine wire is a great substitute for super hair. This stiffer material not only simplifies tying but also adds a little extra weight to the fly. While this does limit your color options—super hair still offers the best variety—this Juju pattern remains an incredibly effective fly, true to Charlie’s designs. The silver-black variation featured in this video is my top choice and most successful version. The Jujubee Midge is a reliable, no-nonsense option for winter tailwaters and performs well year-round on freestones. It’s versatile enough to be fished in various setups, from lightweight dropper rigs to heavy weighted nymphing rigs. I even use it as a lead fly in my drop shot-style Euro rig.
