Sparkle Pupa Video Fly Tying Instructions

The Sparkle Pupa is a wonderful caddis emerger pattern. It was developed by Gary LaFontaine in the 80’s and the fly continues to be a favorite among many anglers. The Sparkle Pupa’s success is mainly due to the “bubble” of sparkle yarn over the body. This bubble traps air, just like a natural caddis pupa making it’s way to the surface of the water. This is a vulnerable stage for the caddis fly and big trout know that as they gobble them up! It is traditionally tied in either a Caddis Green color or a Tan color. Both are effective and a must have in your caddis fly fishing box!

  1. Nice tie, this is a great pattern that I have used for many years with great success after reading Gary Laffontaines book “Caddisflies”. Newbies stick this one in your back pocket!
